SYMPTOMS
When you try to modify or reinstall the existing installation of SQL Server Native Client in Control Panel, a
Windows Installer dialog box may appear. The dialog box reports that the source media that contains the required file is unavailable. The error message may resemble the following:
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Additionally, you receive the following message in the
Windows Installer dialog box together with a
Use source box:Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Sqlncli.msi' in the box below.If you locate the Sqlncli.msi file on the SQL Server 2005 installation media and then click
OK, you receive the following error message:
The file 'Folder\sqlncli.msi' is not a valid installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Server Native Client. Try to find the installation package 'sqlncli.msi' in a folder from which you can install Microsoft SQL Server Native Client.
This problem may occur when all the following conditions are true:
- You have Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed.
- The Sqlncli.msi file that you specify in the Use source box is the version of the Sqlncli.msi file from the original release version of SQL Server 2005.
