Computers that are running x64-based versions of Windows Server 2003 cannot load a registry hive that is larger than 32 MB (919807)

SYMPTOMSWhen you try to start a computer that is running an x64-based version of Microsoft Windows Server 2003, you may receive an error message that resembles the following: Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair. This problem occurs when the system hive is larger than 32 MB. CAUSEThis problem occurs because of a code defect in x64-based versions of Windows Server 2003. The size limit of the system hive for x64-based versions of Windows Server 2003 is set to 32 MB instead of 200 MB.
RESOLUTIONHotfix informationA supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Windows Server 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.
