Description of the Publisher 2003 post-Service Pack 2 hotfix package: May 24, 2006 (919737)

INTRODUCTION

This article describes the Microsoft Office Publisher 2003 issue that is fixed in the hotfix package that is dated May 24, 2006.

Issues that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

When you use a color PostScript printer to print a Publisher 2003 publication, you may experience one of the following symptoms:
- When you print the publication, the colors that are printed are not the colors that you expect.
- If you print the publication to a PostScript file (.ps file), you may receive the following error message when you work with the .ps file in another program, such as Adobe Distiller:
  Publisher detected an error in converting RGB to CMYK values.Microsoft wants to learn more about this error so that this issue can be fixed. Please send e-mail to publist@microsoft.com. Provide a description of your print job and your printer driver configuration. If you have steps that can be used to reproduce this error, please provide these steps.
  Note When you use Notepad to view the .ps file, you may see the text of this error message in the file.
This issue may occur if the following conditions are true:
- The publication contains text inside a text box.
- The text inside the text box is formatted with a font effect, such as one of the following font effects:
  - Emboss
  - Engrave
  - Shadow
- The Spot colors option in the Color Printing dialog box is selected.
- The Output option is set to Composite CMYK. This option is located on the Separations tab in the Advanced Print Settings dialog box.
