Error message when you insert media of non-standard sector sizes into a removable disk device in Windows 2000: "Please insert disk in <DriveLetter>" (919613)

SYMPTOMS

You insert media of non-standard sector sizes into a removable disk device. This removable disk device is connected to a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer that has hotfix 897574 installed. When you do this, you may receive a message that resembles the following:
Please insert disk in DriveLetter:

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the hotfix that is described in Knowledge Base article 897574 enables the windows kernel to recognize and handle large, multiple page-sized sectors. However, other Windows components may not recognize the larger, non-standard sector sizes.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, restart the computer. This enables the removable disk device to recognize media of non-standard sector sizes.
