FIX: An application that performs an XSLT transformation may cause an access violation in the Microsoft XML 3.0 parser (919587)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft XML 3.0

Bug #: 795 (SQL Hotfix)

SYMPTOMS

When an application performs an XSLT transform by using Microsoft XML (MSXML) 3.0, the application may cause an access violation in the MSXML 3.0 parser.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Microsoft XML 3.0 parser does not correctly add reference entries that are added to a hash table. This behavior can cause a crash if the garbage collector frees the reference entries before the entries are used.

Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft XML 3.0 service pack that contains this hotfix.
