SYMPTOMSWindows HTTP Services (WinHTTP) may not connect through a proxy server if proxy auto-configuration is used for Microsoft Internet Explorer connectivity in Microsoft Windows XP.CAUSEThis issue occurs because WinHTTP does not read the location for the auto-proxy configuration file (.pac file) string that is located in the registry. The Internet Explorer automatic configuration script file writes the string to the registry.
Hotfix informationA supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows XP service pack that contains this hotfix.
