Error message when you try to start the .NET Framework 2.0 ASP.NET State Service on a computer that is running Windows 2000 Server: "The service did not start due to a logon failure" (919082)

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. Your computer is running Microsoft Windows 2000 Server and the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. The computer is also a domain controller. In this scenario, you may receive the following error message when you try to start the ASP.NET State Service in the .NET Framework 2.0:
System error 1069 has occurred.

The service did not start due to a logon failure.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, manually set the logon credentials for the ASP.NET State Service. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
  2. Right-click ASP.NET State Service, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Log On tab, set the Log on as option to Local System account, and then click OK.
  4. Right-click ASP.NET State Service, and then click Start.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
