You receive an error message when you try to install Virtual PC for Mac Version 7 (919063)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac Version 7, you receive an error message that resembles one of the following:
The Startup Items folder ("/Library/Startup Items/") does not have the proper security settings.
An item in the Startup Items folder ("/Library/Startup Items/VirtualPCOsServices") does not have the proper security settings.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you try in install Virtual PC for Mac Version 7 on Mac OS X 10.4.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install Virtual PC for Mac Version 7 on Mac OS X 10.4. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Install the latest version of Mac OS X on the computer. To do this, click Software Update on the Apple menu.
  2. Insert the Virtual PC for Mac Disk 1 into the CD or DVD drive.
  3. On the desktop, double-click Virtual PC for Mac Version 7.
  4. In the Virtual PC for Mac version 7 window, double-click Install Virtual PC, click Continue four times, and then click Agree.
  5. Click the destination volume where you want to install Virtual PC for Mac Version 7, click Continue, and then click Install.
  6. Type your user name and password, click OK, and then click Continue Installation.
  7. Click Restart to restart the computer.
  8. Click Fix when you receive an error message that resembles the following:
    The Startup Items folder ("/Library/Startup Items/") does not have the proper security settings.
  9. Click Fix when you receive an error message that resembles the following:
    An item in the Startup Items folder ("/Library/Startup Items/VirtualPCOsServices") does not have the proper security settings.
  10. Click Cancel if you receive an error message that resembles the following:
    The security settings for some startup items have been fixed.
  11. Click OK if you receive an error message that resembles the following:
    Virtual Switch networking could not be started.
  12. In the Virtual PC for Mac Setup Assistant window, click Continue.
  13. Follow the prompts that appear on the screen to complete the installation.
  14. Download and then install the Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac Version 7.0.2 Update.
