A USB removable media storage device in a virtual machine is not available in Virtual PC for Mac Version 7 (919060)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to access a USB removable media storage device in a virtual machine, the device is not available in Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac Version 7.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because by default, the USB removable media storage device is not shared after you install Virtual PC for Mac Version 7.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. On the PC menu, click PC Settings.
  2. Click Shared Folders.
  3. Click to select the Removable media check box.
  4. Click Restart.
After the virtual machine restarts, the removable media USB is listed in the My Computer folder.

MORE INFORMATION

The Removable media check box is unavailable if the Virtual PC for Mac Version 7 Virtual Machine Additions are not installed. To install the Virtual Machine Additions, follow these steps:
  1. On the PC menu, click Install or Update Additions.
  2. Click Next two times.
  3. Click Finish, and then restart the virtual machine when you are prompted.
