Error message when you try to start a Windows XP guest operating system in Virtual PC for Mac Version 7: "No C:\ Disk is specified" (918905)

SYMPTOMS
When you try to start a Microsoft Windows XP-based guest operating system in Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac Version 7, you may receive the following error message:
Reboot and select proper boot device
No C:\ Disk is specified. Although you can boot from a floppy it is recommended to boot from the C:\ disk CAUSE
This issue may occur if Drive 1 Settings is set to None in the settings for the Windows XP virtual machine. To verify these settings, follow these steps:
- In the Virtual PC List dialog box, click the Windows XP guest operating system, and then click Settings.
- In the left column of the Settings dialog box, click Drive 1.
If Drive 1 Settings is set to None, you receive the following message in the text box on the right side of the dialog box:
Drop document on this box RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods.
Method 1- In the Virtual PC List dialog box, click the Windows XP guest operating system, and then click Settings.
- In the left column of the Settings dialog box, click Drive 1.
- In Finder, click Home on the Go menu.
- Double-click Documents, and then double-click the Virtual PC List folder.
- Press and hold down the CTRL key while you click the guest operating system file.
- Click Show Package Contents.
- Press and hold down the CTRL key while you click the file that represents the virtual disk. Typically, this file is named Disk1.
- Click Show Package Contents.
Note The file that represents the virtual disk may appear in the Virtual PC List folder. In this case, steps 5 and 6 are not required. Instead, go to step 7. - Drag the Basedrive.vhd file to the Drive 1 Settings dialog box. Drop the Basedrive.vhd file onto the text box that displays the following message:

- Click OK.
Method 2- In Finder, click Home on the Go menu.
- Double-click Documents, and then double-click the Virtual PC List folder.
- Press and hold down the CTRL key while you click the guest operating system file.
- Click Show Package Contents.
- Press and hold down the CTRL key while you click the file that represents the virtual disk. Typically, this file is named Disk1.
- Click Show Package Contents.
Note The file that represents the virtual disk may appear in the Virtual PC List folder. In this case, steps 3 and 4 are not required. Instead, go to step 5. - Drag the Basedrive.vhd file to the following folder:
Hard Drive:Users:username:Documents:Virtual PC List - Click OK.
- In Virtual PC for Mac Version 7, on the File menu, point to Migrate Data, and then click Import from Previous Version.
- Locate the Basedrive.vhd file, and then click Import.
- Click Convert.
