This article describes how to import a Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac version 5 virtual machine into Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac Version 7.

For example, you may want to upgrade from Virtual PC for Mac version 5 to Virtual PC for Mac Version 7 if you purchase an Apple Power Mac G5 computer. Virtual PC for Mac version 5 is incompatible with the Macintosh G5 processor.

To import a virtual machine that was created in Virtual PC for Mac version 5 into Virtual PC for Mac Version 7, follow these steps:
  1. Install Virtual PC for Mac version 5 on the computer.

    Note If you install Virtual PC for Mac version 5 on an Apple Power Mac G5 computer, do not start the program after the installation finishes.
  2. Install Virtual PC for Mac Version 7 on the computer, and then install the Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac Version 7.0.2 Update.
  3. Start Virtual PC for Mac Version 7.
  4. In the Virtual PC List window, click New.
  5. Click Import from a previous version, and then click Begin.
  6. In the Import a PC window, click the Virtual PC for Mac version 5 virtual machine that you want to import, and then click Import.

    Note By default, Virtual PC for Mac version 5 virtual machines are located in the Documents folder.
  7. Click Continue to confirm that you want to import the operating system, and then click Convert.
  8. Install the Virtual Machine Additions. To do this, click Install or Update Additions on the PC menu.
