SYMPTOMS

When a Terminal Services client computer logs off from a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1)-based Terminal Services session, you may receive a stop error message that resembles the following on the Terminal Services server that the client was connected to:

Stop 0x000000ab

CAUSE

This problem is caused by a session pool leak that occurs in Win32k.sys when a client computer logs off from a Terminal Services session. This problem may also cause other client computers that are logged on to the Terminal Services computer to stop responding.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix Information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Windows Server 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.
