All open workbooks are recalculated when you hide or unhide rows in Excel 2003 (918621)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office Excel 2003
SYMPTOMSWhen you hide or unhide rows in Microsoft Office Excel 2003, all
open workbooks are recalculated. This problem may also occur when you group or ungroup rows.CAUSEThis problem occurs when the calculation mode is set to
Automatic.
In versions of Excel that are earlier than Excel 2003,
workbooks are not recalculated when you hide and unhide rows. This change was made in Excel 2003 to improve support for the SUBTOTAL function. Excel
2003 recalculates workbooks in case dependent subtotals exist.
Note This recalculation does not occur when you hide and unhide columns. WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, set the calculation mode to Manual. To do this, follow these
steps:
- In Excel 2003, on the Tools menu, click
Options.
- In the Options dialog box, click the
Calculation tab.
- In the Calculation area, click
Manual, and then click OK.
Note When you set the calculation mode to Manual, formulas are not recalculated
automatically. This may cause the formulas to appear incorrect. To recalculate the
formulas, press F9. STATUSMicrosoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
in the "Applies to" section.
