Error message when you try to install a hotfix for a BizTalk Server 2004 adapter: "Error 6000" (917843)

SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004, you may receive an error message that resembles the following: Error 6000. An error occurred when adding the adapter to BizTalk configuration. Either the BizTalk configuration database was not found, or an Adapter for SAP was already added to the configuration. Click Cancel if you wish to roll back this installation or click OK to successfully complete the installation, and then manually add this adapter. For information on manually adding the adapter, see the BizTalk documentation after installation is complete.
You may receive this error message when you try to install a hotfix for one of the following BizTalk Server 2004 adapters: - Microsoft BizTalk Adapter 2.0 for mySAP Business Suite
- Microsoft BizTalk Adapter for MSMQ
- Microsoft BizTalk Adapter for Web Services Enhancements 2.0
CAUSEThis issue occurs because the hotfix installer tries to configure the adapter when the adapter is already configured. You may also receive this error message if one of the following conditions is true: - The SQL database is stopped.
- The Enterprise Single Sign-On (SSO) service is not started.
Verify that the SQL database that is used by BizTalk Server is started and available. Additionally, verify that the Enterprise SSO service is started. WORKAROUNDTo work around this issue, click OK. After you click OK, the installation finishes as expected.
