SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You use the Windows Language bar or a Microsoft Input Method Editor (IME) on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1 (SP1). You run a program in full-screen mode. For example, you run Microsoft Internet Explorer in kiosk mode, or you run a Microsoft PowerPoint slide show presentation. However, the Language bar disappears from the screen. Therefore, you cannot use the Language bar to enter text in multiple languages.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Windows Server 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.

Enable the hotfix

After you install the hotfix, you must enable it. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\MSCTF

  3. Right-click MSCTF, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  4. Type EnableLanguagebarInFullscreen, and then press ENTER.
  5. Right-click EnableLanguagebarInFullscreen, and then click Modify.
  6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  7. Exit Registry Editor.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
