You cannot perform a CD installation of a slipstreamed version of Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1 or Windows Server 2003 R2 on a computer that uses an Adaptec 2120S or 2200S RAID controller (917525)

    • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Web Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Datacenter Edition (32-Bit x86)
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition (32-Bit x86)
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition (32-bit x86)

SYMPTOMS

You cannot perform a CD installation of a slipstreamed version of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows Server 2003 R2 on a computer that uses an Adaptec 2120S or 2200S RAID controller.

Note This issue occurs only when you perform a CD installation for the following language versions of Windows Server 2003:
  • Brazilian Portuguese
  • Hong Kong Chinese
  • Russian

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Txtsetup.sif file that is included with the CD has an incorrect entry.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods:
  • Perform a network installation of Windows Server 2003 SP1 or Windows Server 2003 R2 by using a corrected Txtsetup.sif file instead of the Txtsetup.sif file on the CD. To correct the entry in the Txtsetup.sif file, follow these steps:
    1. Delete the following line from the "SCSI.Load" section in the Txtsetup.sif file:

      arc = arc.sys,4

    2. Save the Txtsetup.sif file.
    Then, you may perform the network installation by using one of the following methods:
    • Remote Installation Service (RIS)
    • Automated Deployment Services (ADS)
    • Network share
  • Use the instructions that are provided by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) vendor.
