SYMPTOMS

When you try to upgrade Groove Workspace 2.x to Groove Virtual Office 3.x, you receive the following error message:
After upgrading to Groove Virtual Office 3.x, accounts on this computer without the required license may lose functionality.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you do not have the appropriate license for the edition of Groove Virtual Office to which you are upgrading. For example, this problem may occur if the following conditions are true:
  • You upgrade a licensed edition of Groove Workspace 2.x Professional Edition to Groove Virtual Office 3.x Professional Edition.
  • You do not have a license for Groove Virtual Office 3.x Professional Edition.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods as appropriate for your situation.

Method 1: You upgrade Groove Workspace 2.5 to Groove Virtual Office 3.x

If your account is using a Groove Workspace 2.5 license, the upgrade process will detect your license. The upgrade process will not run until you have enabled the appropriate Groove Virtual Office 3.x license. To work around this problem, cancel the upgrade, obtain and activate a Groove Virtual Office 3.x license, and then restart the Groove Virtual Office 3.x upgrade process.

Note When you click Cancel in the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section, you receive the following error message:
Installation Failed!
A required license was not found.:
net.groove.Groove.DisplayEULA
This error message is expected.

Method 2: You upgrade Groove Workspace 2.1 or Groove Workspace 2.0 to Groove Virtual Office 3.x

If your account is using a Groove Workspace 2.1 or Groove Workspace 2.0 license, the upgrade process cannot determine the edition to which the active license is assigned. In this case, you do not have to activate the appropriate Groove Virtual Office 3.x license to continue the upgrade process. However, if you do not activate the appropriate license, your Groove account will revert to an unlicensed account. And, Groove Virtual Office Trial Edition will be installed. Your Groove account will have all the feature limitations that apply to Groove Virtual Office Trial Edition. You cannot restore the original licensed Groove Workspace 2.x account after you complete this upgrade.

To prevent this issue, cancel the upgrade. If you continue with the upgrade and convert your account to a Groove Virtual Office Trial Edition account, you can restore the licensed functionality later. To do this, obtain and activate the appropriate Groove Virtual Office 3.x license for the upgraded account.
