INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to troubleshoot the issue when Groove no longer sends or receives any communications, workspace updates, or messages.

MORE INFORMATION

Use one or more of the following troubleshooting methods, as appropriate for your situation:
  • In Groove, look for the Work Offline check box on the Options menu. If this check box is checked, click to clear it.
  • If you receive error messages, search for the error messages in the Microsoft Knowledge Base. To do this, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
  • You may be able to send Groove messages to other Groove users on the Local Area Network (LAN) but not on other networks. In this case, there may be a problem with a proxy, a firewall, or a router. Alternatively, there may be a proxy change to which Groove is not adapting. Discuss this with ther network administrator.
  • Consider the following scenario in Groove Workspace 2.5 and earlier versions of Groove. You use Groove on one network, put the computer into suspend or hibernate mode, and then revive the computer on a different network. Groove Workspace does not detect the changed connection information. In this case, you must exit and then restart Groove.

Note This problem does not occur in Groove Virtual Office 3.0 or later versions of Groove. We recommend that you upgrade to the most current version of Groove.
If these methods do not resolve the issue, run Grooveclean.exe. This procedure clears out your communications queue and resolves any problems that are caused by corrupted data in the queue.

To run Grooveclean.exe, follow these steps:
  1. On the File menu, click Exit Groove.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type cmd in the Open box, and then click OK.
  3. At the command prompt, type cd \program files\groove networks\groove\bin, and then press ENTER.
  4. Type grooveclean, and then press ENTER. You should see a list of lines as Groove deletes temporary data.
  5. Close the Command Prompt window, and then restart Groove.
Groove may start in "work offline" mode. To verify this, click the green Groove icon in the notification area. If the Work Offline check box is checked on the Options menu, click to clear it.

To make sure that Groove recovers correctly after the temporary data is deleted, remain online in Groove until the incoming and outgoing data counters are cleared.
