SYMPTOMS

Groove communications fail when you use Groove Virtual Office or Groove Workspace over the Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2000 Web proxy service.

In this situation, you will receive an NT LAN Manager (NTLM) prompt when you start Groove. However, you will never see Groove contacts off your subnet. Additionally, you will not receive any shared workspace data or instant messages that are sent by someone off your subnet or that are sent when you are offline. You may be able to post identity information and search the public Groove directory.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the ISA Server 2000 Web proxy service does not correctly initiate the connection after NTLM authentication.

When the user passes authentication and makes an initial connection to the relay server, the relay server replies with an HTTP 400 code. This is the expected behavior. However, the ISA Server 2000 Web proxy service treats the response as a fatal error. Then, ISA Server 2000 Web proxy service resets the connection.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install ISA Server 2000 Service Pack 1. To obtain ISA Server 2000 Service Pack 1, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

STATUS
