SYMPTOMS

When you click Add File in the Files tool in Groove Virtual Office or in Groove Workspace, a dialog box opens that includes a list of possible file sources. However, My Documents does not appear as a file source on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 2000 or an earlier version of Windows.

CAUSE

This issue occurs if the My Documents icon was removed from the desktop.

Groove obtains the list of possible file sources from Windows. In a default Windows configuration, My Documents always appears in the list. However, in Windows 2000 and in earlier versions of Windows, My Documents will not appear in the list if the My Documents icon was removed from the desktop.

Note Microsoft Windows XP does not have this dependency.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, restore the My Document icon on the desktop. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. In Control Panel, double-click Folder Options, and then click the View tab.
  2. Click to select the Show My Documents on the desktop check box, and then click Apply.
The next time that you click Add File in Groove, you will see My Documents as a possible file source.

MORE INFORMATION

You will see this limitation in most Windows applications when you browse for a file on a computer that is running Windows 2000 or an earlier version of Windows. Microsoft Outlook and some other Microsoft applications use a custom method to find file sources. These applications display My Documents in the list regardless of whether the My Documents icon is on the desktop.
