An E-mail Properties dialog box in which the E-mail type box is set to SMTP is displayed when you double-click a resolved user name for a user in the GAL in Outlook 2003 (917119)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office Outlook 2003
SYMPTOMSConsider the following scenario. You double-click a resolved user name in Microsoft Office Outlook 2003. The resolved user name is for a user in the global address list (GAL) of the Microsoft Exchange Server organization. In this scenario, the E-mail Properties dialog box is displayed. And, the E-mail type box in this dialog box is set to SMTP.
Note You may expect the user name to be resolved as the user's display name. Additionally, when you double-click the resolved user name, you may expect the User_display_name Properties dialog box to be displayed. This dialog box includes all the GAL properties for the user.CAUSEThis behavior may occur if the following conditions are true: - Outlook 2003 is running in Cached Exchange Mode.
- The offline address book has been fully downloaded.
- You type an e-mail address such as "user_alias@your_domain_name.com". Then, you resolve the e-mail address.
WORKAROUNDTo work around this behavior, type only the alias of the user, and then resolve the alias.
