You cannot rename a campaign entity or the entity attributes in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 (917098)

SYMPTOMS

You cannot rename a campaign entity or the entity attributes in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0.

Note As an administrator in CRM 3.0, you may have to customize a campaign entity or the entity attributes. By default, campaign entities are not customizable.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install this hotfix. Then follow the steps in the "More Information" section to make customizations to campaign entities and to entity attributes.

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 service pack that contains this hotfix.

After the hotfix has been installed, follow these steps to make customizations to campaign entities and to entity attributes that contain the word "campaign":
  1. Log in to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 as an administrator.
  2. On the Go To menu, point to Settings and then click Customization.
  3. Click Export Customizations.
  4. Click Export All Customizations.
  5. In the File Download dialog box, click Save, and then save the Customizations.xml file to a secure backup location. When the download is completed, click Close.

    Note We recommend that you make a backup of the Microsoft Dynamics CRM databases before you make these changes. For more information about how to back up the Microsoft Dynamics CRM system, see chapter 26 in the "Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 Implementation Guide."
  6. Next to Location, click Customization.
  7. Click Customize Entities.
  8. Click the Schema Name column heading to sort the column by schema name.
  9. In the Schema Name column, double-click bulkoperation.

    Note You can double-click anywhere in the corresponding row. For instance, in the Name column, you can double-click Quick Campaign.

  10. On the General tab, rename the Name field and the Plural Name field to the desired names. In this example, rename the Name field to Quick Marketing Operation, and rename the Plural Name field to Quick Marketing Operations.
  11. Under Details, click Messages.
  12. Under Default Display String, double-click the string that you want to customize.
  13. In the Custom Display String box, type the new display string. In this example, type Quick Marketing Operation. Additionally, type any comments in the Comment box. Then click Save and Close.
  14. Repeat steps 12 and 13 for any additional display strings that you want to rename.
  15. After all customizations are completed, click Save.
  16. On the Actions menu, click Publish.
  17. Click Save and Close to close the bulkoperation schema.
  18. Repeat steps 9-17 for each entity that contains message strings that you want to customize. In this example, we customized the bulkoperation schema Quick Campaign. To customize similar message strings, you may want to customize the message strings in the following schemas:
    • Campaign
    • Campaign Response
    • Campaign Activity
  19. To rename the views that contain the word "campaign", follow these steps:
    1. On the Go To menu, point to Settings, and then click Customization.
    2. Click Customize Entities.
    3. Click the Schema Name column heading to sort the column by schema name.
    4. In the Schema Name column, double-click campaign.

      Note You can double-click anywhere in the corresponding row. For instance, in the Name column, you can double-click Campaign.

    5. Click Forms and Views.
    6. Double-click the view that you want to customize. In this example, double-click All Campaigns and Campaign Templates.
    7. Under Common Tasks, click View Properties.
    8. In the Name box, type a new name, and then click OK. In this example, type the name All Marketing Operations and Marketing Operation Templates.
    9. Click Save and Close.
    10. Repeat steps f-i for each view you want to rename.
    11. Click Save and Close to close the Campaign entity.
    12. Make sure that the campaign schema is selected. Then click Publish.
    13. Repeat steps a - l for each entity that has views that you want to rename.
  20. Add an UndesiredWords string value to the registry. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Exit Microsoft CRM.
    2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
    3. Locate and then select the following registry subkey:

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSCRM

    4. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Multi-string Value.
    5. Type UndesiredWords. Then press ENTER.
    6. Right-click UndesiredWords. Then click Modify.
    7. In the Value data box, type the string values for the customizations that you previously completed. In this example, type the following:

      Campaign=Marketing Operation;campaign=marketing operation;Campaigns=Marketing Operations;campaigns=marketing operations

    8. Click OK.
    9. On the File menu, click Exit to exit Registry Editor.
  21. In Microsoft CRM, click Workplace, click Reports, and then select Campaign Comparision.
  22. On the More Actions menu, click Edit Report.
  23. On the General tab, rename the fields that contain the word "campaign." In this example, rename the report to Quick Marketing Operation.
  24. Click Save and Close.

    Note If you have Administrator or Manage Reports privileges, do not customize the "hidden" reports that are associated with the Campaign Comparison report.
  25. Exit Microsoft CRM.
  26. Click Start, click Run, type iisreset in the Open box, and then click OK. The iisreset command will temporarily stop and then restart all Web sites that are on the Microsoft CRM 3.0 server.
  27. Delete the temporary Internet files that are on your hard disk. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Start Microsoft Internet Explorer.
    2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
    3. Under Temporary Internet files, click Delete Files.
    4. Click to select the Delete all offline content check box, and then click OK.
    5. Click OK to close the Internet Options dialog box.
