Text is slow to appear or to disappear when you type or delete text in a table when you are using Word 2003 on a Terminal Server client (917056)

SYMPTOMS

The following symptoms may occur when you are using Microsoft Office Word 2003 on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server client computer:
  • When you type text in a table, the text is slow to appear.
  • When you delete text from a table, the text is slow to disappear.
These symptoms also occur when you are using Word 2003 on a Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Terminal Services client computer.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the small-dots style border has been applied to the table.

How to obtain the hotfix

This issue is fixed in the Word 2003 post-Service Pack 2 Hotfix Package that is dated March 13, 2006. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

How to enable the hotfix

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

To enable this hotfix, use one of the following methods as appropriate.

Method 1: For Microsoft Input Method Editor (IME) 2003 and Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

To enable this hotfix if you use IME 2003 and Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, follow these steps:
  1. Exit Word 2003.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  3. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Common\IME

  4. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  5. Type UseAIMM12, and then press ENTER.
  6. Right-click UseAIMM12, and then click Modify.
  7. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  8. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Options

  9. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  10. Type FastTableRenderOnIMETS, and then press ENTER.
  11. Right-click FastTableRenderOnIMETS, and then click Modify.
  12. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  13. On the File menu, click Exit to exit Registry Editor.

Method 2: For Microsoft Input Method Editor (IME) 2000 and Windows 2000 Server

To enable this hotfix if you use IME 2000 and Windows 2000 Server, follow these steps:
  1. Exit Word 2003.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  3. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Options

  4. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  5. Type FastTableRenderOnIMETS, and then press ENTER.
  6. Right-click FastTableRenderOnIMETS, and then click Modify.
  7. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  8. On the File menu, click Exit to exit Registry Editor.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
