SYMPTOMS
When you use the Express Install option to install Microsoft Windows Server 2003 from the installation CD, only half of the available drive space on the first logical drive is allocated to the operating system. The rest of the drive is unallocated.
Note The Express Install option is available only if Emergency Management Services is enabled in the BIOS of the computer.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because the Express Install option is designed not to use all the available drive space for the system partition.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, use either of the following methods:
- Use the Custom Install option to install Windows Server 2003 from the installation CD.
- Disable Emergency Management Services in the BIOS before you install Windows Server 2003 from the installation CD. After Setup is finished, re-enable Emergency Management Services in the BIOS.
When you use either of these methods, you are presented with the option to customize the partition that is used for the system partition.
