SYMPTOMSWhen you try to apply a Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) software update, you are prompted by a dialog box to send an error report to Microsoft. The text of this dialog box is similar to the following: A recently applied update, KB911562, failed to install.
When you click the 'Send Report' button, data concerning why this update was unable to install will be sent to Microsoft. Most of the time, this dialog box does not indicate a crash in the installer. Instead, the Send Error dialog box appears because the installer detects that the software update that you are running corresponds to a different version of MDAC than the version that is actually installed on the computer.
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, apply the correct software update for the version of MDAC that is actually running on the computer. To determine what version of MDAC is installed, we recommend that you run the Component Checker utility. For more information, visit the following Microsoft Web site: You should select a software update that is appropriate for your configuration.
