How to import a supported operating system that you purchased as a bundle with Virtual PC for Mac Version 6.1 after you install Virtual PC for Mac Version 7 as an upgrade (916756)

INTRODUCTIONYou install Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac Version 7 as an upgrade from Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac Version 6.1. This article describes how to import a supported operating system that you purchased as a bundle with Virtual PC 6.1 after you install Virtual PC 7.
Virtual PC 6.1 and earlier versions are incompatible with the Apple Power Mac G5 Processor. Therefore, you may want to purchase Virtual PC 7 and then import the operating system that you purchased as a bundle with Virtual PC 6.1.MORE INFORMATIONWhen you import a Virtual PC for Mac version 6.1 virtual machine into Virtual PC for Mac Version 7, the original virtual machine settings are also imported. If the Undo Drives option is enabled in the Virtual PC for Mac version 6.1 virtual machine, you can choose to commit or to discard the changes in the Undo file. Or, you can continue to use the Undo file.
When you import a Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows 2000 virtual machine from Virtual PC for Mac version 6.1 into Virtual PC for Mac Version 7, Windows checks for new hardware the first time that you start the virtual machine in Virtual PC for Mac Version 7. Virtual PC for Mac Version 7 emulates different hardware than earlier versions of Virtual PC. Additionally, you must update the hardware settings in the virtual machine before you use the virtual machine in Virtual PC for Mac Version 7. The hardware detection process may take 10 to 30 minutes.
After you import a Windows 2000 virtual machine from Virtual PC for Mac version 6.1 into Virtual PC for Mac Version 7, the mouse and the keyboard may not function as expected. To resolve this issue, wait for the hardware detection process to complete, and then click Reset on the PC menu.
Note Windows 2000 may automatically run a disk check after you reset the virtual machine.
