SYMPTOMS

A leak occurs in the Netbt.sys file in the following Terminal Server environments:
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) Terminal Server
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server
These environments have many NetBIOS over TCP/IP (NetBT) connections. The leak in the Netbt.sys file exhausts all available TCP endpoints for outgoing traffic. This problem occurs in Terminal Server environments with thousands of log on and log off transactions per day.

Note This problem may also affect servers that do not have Terminal Server enabled.

When you use the Tdimon.exe tool on Terminal Server, you receive an error message that resembles the following:
0xC000020A STATUS_ADDRESS_ALREADY_EXISTS
Note You must restart the computer after you receive this error.

When you run the nltest /sc_query command on Terminal Server, you receive an error message that resembles the following:
ERROR_NOT_ENOUGH_MEMORY
When you run the netdom query fsmo command on Terminal Server, you receive an error message that resembles the following:
RPC_SERVER_UNAVAILABLE
Note x64-based versions of Windows Server 2003 include Windows Server 2003 SP1.
