INTRODUCTION

If you remove a subtask from a summary task in the Task Manager tool, the values that are in the following boxes of the former summary task remain the same:
  • The Status box
  • The Priority box
  • The Duration box
However, if you add a task to a summary task in the Tool Manager tool, the values for all three of these boxes are recomputed.

MORE INFORMATION

The values remain the same when the subtask is removed even if the following conditions are true:
  • The values for the Status, the Priority, and the Duration boxes of the summary task are derived from the subtask.
  • The former summary task has no other subtasks.
The following is an example of the values being recalculated and of the values remaining the same:
  1. In the Task Manager tool, create a task that is named task 1, and then select the following values for this task:

    Duration = 1
    Priority = Critical

  2. Create another task on the same level as task 1 that is named task 2, and then select the following values for this task:

    Duration = 10
    Priority = Normal

  3. The values are recalculated if you follow these steps:
    1. Demote task 2 so that it is a subtask of task 1.
    2. Click task 1. Notice that the value in the Duration box is now 10 and that the value in the Priority box is now Normal.
  4. The values remain the same if you follow these steps:
    1. Promote task 2 so that it is no longer a subtask of task 1.
    2. Click task 1.
    3. Notice that the value in the Duration box is still 10 and that the value in the Priority box is still Normal.
To restore the original information in step 4b, Groove would have to cache that information. This process could cause resource problems in a Task Manager tool that already has many tasks.

The TeamDirection Project tool that is included with Groove Virtual Office 3.x, Project Edition has the same behavior as the Duration box that is in Groove Workspace. However, the value in the Priority box of a task is not affected by the value in the Priority box of its component subtasks in Groove Virtual Office 3.x, Project Edition.
