Error message when you connect the receiver for a Wireless Optical Mouse Blue device to a Windows Millennium Edition-based computer: "The file mouhid.vxd was not found" (916466)

SYMPTOMSWhen you connect the receiver for a Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse Blue device to a Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition-based computer, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following: The file mouhid.vxd was not found. CAUSEThis issue may occur if the Mouhid.vxd file is missing or has been corrupted.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, follow these steps: - Click Start, click Run, type msconfig, and then click OK.
- On the Startup tab, click to clear the *StateMgr check box, and then click OK.
- When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
- When the computer starts, click OK in the Selective startup window.
- On the General tab, click Extract File.
- Type C:\Windows\system\mouhid.vxd, and then click Start.
- In the Restore from box, type c:\windows\options\cabs, and then click OK.
- Follow the prompts to back up the files that you removed.
- On the General tab, click Normal startup.
- When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
