SYMPTOMS When you try to install Groove Virtual Office on a Japanese
version of Microsoft Windows, you may receive the following error messages: Internal Error V1 Feature
Transfer error: Error 1 CAUSEThis issue occurs because on a Microsoft Windows NT-based computer, the temporary directory
default path for each user is C:\Documents and
Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp. Therefore, when the user name includes kanji characters, the temporary directory path also includes
kanji characters. The software that is used to make the compressed
network distribution of Groove (vBuild) cannot handle these characters.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, install Groove Virtual
Office from the Groove installation CD or from the "One-Click Install" link on the following Groove Networks
Downloads Web page: These installation methods do not use vBuild for compression.
WORKAROUNDFor versions of Groove that are earlier than Groove
Virtual Office 3.1, work around this issue by using an installation that is downloaded
from the Groove Networks Web site. To do this, follow these steps:
- In Windows, use any drive in which you have sufficient disk space and full
permissions. On this drive, create a temporary directory that does not include kanji characters in the path. For example, create a temporary directory that is called C:\Mytemp.
- On the desktop, right-click My Computer,
and then click Properties.
- Click the Advanced tab, and then click
Environment Variables.
- In the User variables for
Username list, select TEMP, and
then click Edit.
- Note the current value of the variable, so that you can
restore it later.
- Change the value to the directory that you created in step 1,
and then click OK.
- Run the Groove installation.
- After the installation finishes, return to the
Environmental Variables dialog box, and then reset
TEMP to its original value.
- Delete the directory that you created in step 1.
