INTRODUCTION

You cannot see any Groove contacts on the local network after you install or upgrade other software on the computer.

MORE INFORMATION

Groove Virtual Office 3.x and Groove Workspace 2.x use connections on port 1211 to find Groove contacts on the local network. Port 1211 is a reserved port that the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) granted to Groove Networks for the Groove Device Presence Protocol (DPP).

If another application incorrectly opens a listener on this port, Groove does not receive indicators of presence on the network. Additionally, you may receive the following error message:
Failed to Bind Port
Note Groove Virtual Office 3.1 detects this issue, and therefore obtains the information from the Relay Servers for local contacts.

To determine whether another application incorrectly opened a listener on port 1211, open a Command Prompt window, and then run the following command:

netstat -anob > connections.txt

Examine Connections.txt to see what ports are being used. Groove should have port 1211 for contact discovery and status.

Ideally, Groove should also have port 2492. Groove uses port 2492 for peer to peer connections. Peer to peer connections offer faster transfer than relay server connections.
