SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You install the update that is described in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article 828026 on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer. Every time that you visit Microsoft Windows Update Web site thereafter, Windows Update continually detects and installs the update.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Uninstall the KB 828026 update. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
    2. In the Add or Remove Programs window, select Windows Media Player (KB828026), and then click Remove.
  2. Uninstall Microsoft Windows Media Player. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection Uninstall 132 c:\windows\inf\wmp.inf, and then click OK.
    2. Restart the computer.
  3. Install Windows Media Player. Click the following link to download Windows Media Player:
  4. Install the KB 828026 update again. Click the following link to download the KB 828026 update:
