SYMPTOMS
You are using the Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 Distribute Software Updates Wizard to authorize updates from a SMS 2003 Service Pack 2-based computer. However, when you download the updates, you receive the following error message:
Error downloading file File Name.exe: Unknown error 0x80071017
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
- The SMS site server is running on a Microsoft Windows 2000 Server-based computer or on a Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server-based computer.
- You are using the Distribute Software Updates Wizard to authorize updates for the SMS Inventory Tool for Hewlett-Packard (HP) Proliant and Integrity Updates.
RESOLUTION
Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Systems Management Server 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.
