This hotfix package fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • You receive an "An unexpected error has occurred" error message when you try to add a Web Part to a page in a Windows SharePoint Services Web site

When you try to add a Web Part to a Web page in a Windows SharePoint Services site that is hosted on a computer that is running Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, you receive an error message that is similar to the following error message:
    An unexpected error has occurred.
This problem occurs if the Windows SharePoint Services site is an unghosted site or is based on a site template that was created from an unghosted site. An unghosted site is a site in which the Web pages were modified, and the contents of the Web pages are stored in the database. For example, this issue occurs if either of the following conditions is true:
    • A Web page in the site was modified by using Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 or by using another method.
    • The Windows SharePoint Services site was created by using a site template. The site template was based on an unghosted Windows SharePoint Services Web site.
