FIX: The stream operator (>>) does not correctly handle an integer-comma combination in Visual C++ 2005 (915697)

SYMPTOMS

The stream operator (>>) does not correctly handle an integer-comma combination in Microsoft Visual C++ 2005. If you have a buffer defined and then you try to stream the integer into an integer variable, the variable is not updated. For example, this behavior may occur when you use the following code example.
int nTmp=-3;
char cTmp1= '0';
char cTmp2= '0';
char buf[]= "{5, "

istringstream ist(buf);
ist >> cTmp1;
ist >> nTmp;
ist >> cTmp2;

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Visual Studio 2005 service pack that contains this hotfix.
