INTRODUCTION

This article discusses why you must upgrade all your computers when you upgrade to Groove Virtual Office 3.0f or a later version of Groove if you use your Groove account on multiple computers.

MORE INFORMATION

The password reset feature in Groove Virtual Office 3.0f requires changes to the way that Groove stores your account. Therefore, all your computers must use this version.

When you upgrade one of your computers to Groove Virtual Office 3.0f, the installation triggers an automatic Groove upgrade on all other computers that run the same Groove account. If the automatic upgrade fails for any reason, you must install Groove Virtual Office 3.0f over the earlier version on that computer within 60 days. During those 60 days, you can continue to use Groove as long as you avoid using the password reset feature of Groove Virtual Office 3.0f for an unmanaged identity.

If you do not finish the upgrade within 60 days, or if you use the password reset feature for an unmanaged identity, the computers will no longer synchronize. If your computers stop synchronizing because you use the password reset feature, but your initial installation is less than 60 days old, you can resolve this issue by upgrading the computer that has the earlier version of Groove.

If your computers have stopped synchronizing because you went beyond 60 days with disparate versions of Groove, your account files have become unsynchronized. To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. From the computer on which the upgrade failed, archive any information that is not found on the computer on which the upgrade succeeded. For example, if you created a new workspace on the computer on which the upgrade failed after the synchronization stopped, right-click the workspace in the workspace list, point to Save as, and then click Archive.
  2. On the upgraded computer, click the Options menu, click Preferences, click the Account tab, click Use this Computer for Account Uploads or Upload Account Now, and then wait for the upload to finish. This procedure makes sure that the account information for your multiple computers is correct.
  3. After all data is saved, delete your account from the computer on which the upgrade failed. To do this, click Preferences on the Options menu, click the Account tab, and then click Delete Account from this Computer.
  4. Exit Groove, restart it, and then exit Groove again. This procedure makes sure that the account is deleted.
  5. Restart Groove again. In the Groove Account Setup Wizard, click Use an Existing Groove Account.
  6. On the logon page, enter the e-mail address that is configured for your account and for your password, and then click Finish.
  7. Restore any content that you archived in step 1.
You can also resolve the synchronization issue by using an account file instead of by using the Internet. For more information, visit the following Groove Networks Web site:
