MORE INFORMATION

You cannot prevent the duplication of domain names in Groove. However, the certificates and the Guaranteed Unique Identifiers (GUIDs) that are associated with the domain name and with the Relay Server are always unique. Consider the following scenario:
  • You create a domain named XYZ. This domain has unique certificates and GUIDs.
  • You add users to the domain. These users are now managed under your domain, and they recognize each other as being trusted members of the domain.
  • Someone else creates another domain named XYZ, and adds users to that domain. The members of the first domain do not recognize the members of the second domain as being trusted members. This is because the certificates and the GUIDs for each domain are unique.
The information about user identities that Groove displays includes the name of the domain to which the user belongs. Therefore, different domains that have the same name appear the same on a contacts list. However, the color of the display indicates that a different trust relationship exists between the two domains. Additionally, when you authenticate the user, Groove provides details about the trust relationship.

Users from a third domain that has the same trust relationship with both identically named domains cannot distinguish between the domains, but Groove can. Therefore, if the administrator of the third domain cross-certifies the members of one of the two identically named domains, the members of the other domain are not certified.

Note For security, you can set a policy that stops your members from using Groove to communicate with any users who are outside your domain.
