SYMPTOMS

You try to merge Microsoft Word documents from the Document Review tool in Groove Workspace or in Groove Virtual Office. When you do this, you receive the following error message:
The Merge process was aborted because of the following error: "Command failed"

CAUSE

This issue occurs when one of the following conditions is true:
  • A reviewer made a markup document by using a later version of Word than the one that you, as the author, are using in the Document Review tool.
  • The changes in a markup document are too complex to merge into the original.

Note This behavior is likely to occur only with Microsoft Word 97 or Microsoft Word 2000.
  • The Word installation is corrupted.
  • The Word installation does not include current service packs.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, make sure that the Word installation includes all current service packs. Additionally, make sure that the version of Word that you are using is the same as the version that your reviewers are using.

If the issue persists, run the Detect and Repair feature from the Help menu in Word.
