To add a Groove invitation to a Web page, create the invitation file, and then add this file to a Web server. Then, configure the Web server to recognize the file type. The following sections describe these steps in more detail.

How to create a Groove invitation and add it to a Web server

1. Open the workspace list.
2. If you are using Groove Virtual Office 3.x, right-click the workspace for which you want to create an invitation, and then click Save Invitation as File.
   
   If you are using Groove Workspace 2.x, right-click the workspace for which you want to create an invitation, click Invite, and then click Save Invitation File.
3. Copy this file to the Web server. Then, create a link to this file.

How to configure the Web server

The invitation file is an XML-based file that has a .grv file name extension. For this invitation to function correctly, you must set the MIME type to .grv on the Web server. If you do not set the MIME type, the user's browser will display the XML source instead of passing the file to the Groove application. To set the MIME type in Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS), follow these steps:

1. Start Internet Services Manager.
2. Expand the main console tree, and then right-click Default Web Site.
3. Click Properties, and then click the HTTP Headers tab.
4. Under MIME Map, click the File Types tab, and then click New Type.
5. In the Extension box, type .grv.
6. In the Content Type box, type application/vnd.groove-injector, and then click OK.

The procedure for setting content type will vary from one Web server to another. To set this MIME type on other Web servers, see the server's documentation.

In some cases, you may see XML text in the Web browser when you try to access a Groove invitation that another user saved to a Web page. To work around this issue, save the invitation file instead of opening it in the browser. To do this, right-click the link, click Save Target As, and then enter a target location on the computer. After you save the invitation file to the local computer, start Windows Explorer, and then double-click the invitation file.
