INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to authenticate the sender of a message in Groove Virtual Office or in Groove Workspace.

MORE INFORMATION

Identity names are not unique in Groove. If you have a contact that is not authenticated, other users can contact you by using the same name. If you are not sure who sent a message, and you think that the sender may be a known contact, you can manually check the sender's vCard. Then, compare the digital fingerprint of the person who sent the message with that of the known contact.

Click the From field in the message. If you or a domain has authenticated the sender, Groove Virtual Office 3.x displays the name in green, teal, or blue depending on the authenticator. Groove Workspace 2.x always displays contact names in black. However, Groove Workspace 2.5 displays an authentication icon to the left of the name of an authenticated contact. If the sender is not authenticated, you must verify the identity. To verify the identity of the sender of a message, follow these steps:
  1. Find the known contact that you suspect sent the message.
  2. Right-click the name of the contact in the contacts list, click Authenticate Contact, and then note the digital fingerprint of the known contact.
  3. Return to the message, and then click From to view the sender's vCard.
  4. Click More, and then click Authenticate Contact.
  5. Compare the digital fingerprint of the sender with that of the known contact.
    • If the fingerprints match, click Authenticate as to authenticate the user. The icon for a manually authenticated contact will appear on that message and on all messages that are sent from the same account.

Note If you do this, you do not have to repeat this authentication procedure for the same contact later.
    • If the fingerprints do not match, the two contacts may not be the same person. Contact the sender to ask whether the sender has created a new identity.
