You receive an error message after you try to import accounts into Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006 from an Excel worksheet (915515)

SYMPTOMS

After you try to import accounts into Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006 from a Microsoft Office Excel worksheet, you receive one of the following error messages:

Error message 1

Current liability cannot Import. The account type is not an account type.

Error message 2

Long term liability cannot Import. The account type is not an account type.

Error message 3

Fixed Asset cannot Import. The account type is not an account type.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because an incorrect account type is specified in the Excel worksheet that you want to import.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Open the ImportData.xls template file, and then verify the account types that you can use in the Excel worksheet.

    Note The first column in this file contains the account types that can be specified in the Excel worksheet. By default, the ImportData.xls file is located in the following directory:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Small Business\Small Business Accounting\Templates\Excel\

  2. Modify the Excel worksheet. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Open the Excel worksheet.
    2. If an account type in the Excel worksheet is not listed in the ImportData.xls template file, change the account type.

      For example, if an account type is listed as Current Liability, change it to Current Liabilities.
    3. On the File menu, click Save, and then click Close.
  3. Import the Excel worksheet.
