Error message when you try to start Small Business Accounting 2006: "Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting has encountered an error and needs to be closed" (915512)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to start Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006 after a successful installation, you may receive the following error message:
Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting has encountered an error and needs to be closed.

File or assembly name System, or one of its dependencies, was not found.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because you do not have Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 installed. Even if you have Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 installed, you must have Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 installed to run Small Business Accounting.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Insert the Small Business Accounting CD into the computer's CD drive.
  2. Click Start, and then click My Computer.
  3. In the My Computer window, right-click the designated CD drive, and then click Explore.
  4. Double-click the Dotnetfx.exe file.
  5. In the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Setup dialog box, click Yes to install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1.
  6. Start Small Business Accounting.
