An access violation occurs in the W3proxy.exe process when you enable link translation for a specified Web publishing rule on a computer that is running ISA Server 2000 (915411)

SYMPTOMS

You enable link translation for a specified Web publishing rule on a computer that is running Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2) or ISA Server 2000 Feature Pack 1. However, in this situation, an access violation occurs in the W3proxy.exe process.

Additionally, the following event is logged in the Application log:Event Type: Error
Event Source: Application Error
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1000
Date: Date
Time: Time
User: N/A
Computer: ISA
Description:
Faulting application w3proxy.exe, version 3.0.1200.365, faulting module LinkTrans.dll, version 3.0.1200.365, fault address 0x0000349a.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 service pack that contains this hotfix.

Prerequisites

You must have ISA Server 2000 SP2 or ISA Server 2000 Feature Pack 1 installed before you apply this hotfix.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix. However, you must restart ISA services.

Hotfix replacement information

This hotfix does not replace any other hotfixes. The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

To enable link translation for a Web publishing rule, follow these steps:
  1. In the ISA Management console, click Internet Security and Acceleration Server, click Servers and Arrays, click the applicable array, click Publishing, and then click Web Publishing Rules.
  2. 
 In the details pane, right-click the applicable Web publishing rule, and then click Properties.
  3. 
 On the Link Translation tab, click Perform link translation, and then click OK.
