An access violation occurs in the W3proxy.exe process when you enable link translation for a specified Web publishing rule on a computer that is running ISA Server 2000 (915411)

SYMPTOMS

You enable link translation for a specified Web publishing rule on a computer that is running Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2) or ISA Server 2000 Feature Pack 1. However, in this situation, an access violation occurs in the W3proxy.exe process.

Additionally, the following event is logged in the Application log:Event Type: Error

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix. However, you must restart ISA services.

To enable link translation for a Web publishing rule, follow these steps:
  1. In the ISA Management console, click Internet Security and Acceleration Server, click Servers and Arrays, click the applicable array, click Publishing, and then click Web Publishing Rules.
  2. In the details pane, right-click the applicable Web publishing rule, and then click Properties.
  3. On the Link Translation tab, click Perform link translation, and then click OK.
