You cannot install the DFS Replication Diagnostic and Configuration Tools on a computer that is running Windows Storage Server 2003 R2, Express Edition (915397)

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. When you click Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel, and then you click Add/Remove Windows Components, the DFS Replication Diagnostic and Configuration Tools check box is available. But when you click to select the check box, the tools are not installed. You do not receive an error message.

In this scenario, you cannot install the Distributed File System (DFS) Replication Diagnostic and Configuration Tools on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003 R2, Express Edition.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the DFS Replication Diagnostic and Configuration Tools check box is incorrectly listed in the Windows Components Wizard in Windows Storage Server 2003 R2, Express Edition. The DFS Replication Diagnostic and Configuration Tools component is unavailable in Windows Storage Server 2003 R2, Express Edition.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
