You can use the following list of features to decide whether you should upgrade from ActiveSync 3.7.1 or ActiveSync 3.8 to ActiveSync 4.0:
  • Reliability and trustworthiness:
    • The server and desktop synchronization reliability is improved.
    • The security push security feature and the Protect my PC security feature are more reliable.
  • Platform improvements:
    • Migration between Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Windows CE Edition and the extended version of the Pocket Outlook Object Model (POOM2) has been improved.
    • New device synchronization architecture has been added.
    • AirSync convergence is improved.
    • The Remote API (RAPI) is more reliable. For example, RAPI is thread-friendly and improves security.
  • Enhanced user experience:

    • Work on Exchange Server and work from EDG Networking is integrated.
  • Media synchronization:
    • Integrated Windows Media Player (WMP) 10 media synchronization and ActiveSync experience
