Error message when you try to install an operating system in Virtual PC for Mac Version 7: "OS not found" (915060)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install an operating system in Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac Version 7, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following error message:
OS not found Install an OS on this hard drive

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the following conditions are true:
  • You purchased the operating system that you are trying to install together with Virtual PC for Mac Version 7. For example, you purchased Virtual PC for Mac Version 7 with Windows XP Professional. And, you are trying to install Microsoft Windows XP Professional.
  • When you created the virtual machine, you clicked Install your own operating system.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Start Virtual PC for Mac Version 7.
  2. Click New.
  3. Click Install from a Virtual PC for Mac CD, and then click Next.
  4. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to complete the installation.
