  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Web Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Volume Shadow Copy Service on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003, you experience one of the following problems:
  • When you create and then delete a shadow copy that is supported by a hardware provider, a handle leak in the Shell Hardware Detection Service occurs. Specifically, a handle to the MountPointManager device is leaked in the Shell Hardware Detection Service. This problem occurs because of a bug in the GetVolumePathNamesForVolumeName function.
  • When you create or import a shadow copy by using the Volume Shadow Copy Service together with a hardware provider, a handle leak in the System process occurs. Specifically, every time that a shadow copy is created or imported, the system does not close a handle to the following registry entry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\Scsi Port\<shadow copy LUN ID>

This problem occurs because of a bug in the StorPort driver (Storport.sys).
