SYMPTOMS

The FsRtlCreateSectionForDataScan API is currently unavailable in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). Because the FsRtlCreateSectionForDataScan API is unavailable, antivirus vendors must use the MmCreateSection API. Microsoft does not support this API because it is undocumented and unsupported.

This article describes the filter manager rollup package for Windows XP SP2. The package includes the following:
  • The FsRtlCreateSectionForDataScan API.
  • The fixes for crash and compatibility issues that users experience in Microsoft Windows Live OneCare.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article.
