SYMPTOMS If you use the same Groove Virtual Office or Groove Workspace account on two different
operating systems on the same multiple-boot computer, the two copies of the Groove account will become
unsynchronized.MORE INFORMATION You cannot use the same Groove account on two different
operating systems on the same multiple-boot computer.
Groove tracks
communications by using a single DeviceURL for the physical device. For standard Groove products, the device is a computer. By using this
device-based design, Groove communications can continue to send or receive data
on behalf of Groove accounts that exist under Microsoft Windows accounts that are not currently
logged on. This functionality enables two Groove users who are never logged on to Windows at
the same time, and therefore never online at the same time, to still be able to
communicate by using Groove.
However, every operating system on a particular computer has a separate set of Groove accounts in the directories for the
operating system. Because of this directory separation, if you have
the same Groove account under different operating systems on the same
computer, you will have multiple copies of each workspace on the hard disk.
Additionally, you will have multiple copies of the account because accounts in Groove
are stored as a special type of workspace.
The initial importing of the account will
appear to work. However, because the DeviceURL is stored for each computer, and because the ContactURLs for identities for the same Groove account are
the same for the multiple operating systems, Groove will not perceive changes to
workspaces or contacts as data that it must transmit.
Because
nothing is ever sent to the Groove relay for the other instance of the account,
the two installations will become increasingly unsynchronized.
Transferring the account to a second computer will not help.
