A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Windows Server 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.

After you install the hotfix, you must modify the registry to enable the hotfix. To do this, follow these steps:
Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.
- Click Start, click Run, type Regedit, and then click OK.
- To enable this hotfix per user, locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl
To enable this hotfix per computer, locate and then click the following registry subkey:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl
- Click the registry subkey that you located in step 2.
- On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.
- Type FEATURE_CHUNK_TIMEOUT_KB914453, and then press ENTER.
- Click the registry key you created in step 5.
- On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.
- Type Settings, and then press ENTER.
- Click FEATURE_CHUNK_TIMEOUT_KB914453.
- On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
- Type Iexplore.exe, and then press ENTER.
- On the Edit menu, click Modify.
- In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
Note The valid values for the subkey are 0 and 1. A value of 1 enables the hotfix, and a value of 0 disables the hotfix. - Click FEATURE_CHUNK_TIMEOUT_KB914453.
- Click Settings.
- On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.

Type ChunkSelectTimeout, and then press ENTER.

On the Edit menu, click Modify.
- In the Value data box, type FFFFFFFF, and then click OK.
Note The valid values for the subkey are based on a delay. A value of FFFFFFFF enables the hotfix, and any other value indicates the time-out value. - Exit Registry Editor.
Note If you update the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE registry subtree, you must restart the computer. Then, you must log off and log on the computer to see the behavior changes.
